New York Rangers President Chris Drury announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Will Borgen from the Seattle Kraken in exchange for Kaapo Kakko. Borgen, a 27-year-old defenseman, joins the Rangers with experience playing for both the Kraken and Buffalo Sabres.
Borgen’s statistics show he is a physical presence on the ice, ranking fifth among the Kraken this season in hits (48) and blocked shots (37). Over his career, he has accumulated 247 NHL games under his belt, scoring nine goals and 46 assists for 55 points. The 6-3, 204-pound native of Moorhead, Minnesota was originally selected by Buffalo in the fourth round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
The trade now gives the Rangers seven selections in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Meanwhile, Kakko will part ways with the team after skating in 330 career games over six seasons, scoring 61 goals and 70 assists for 131 points.
