New York’s $10 Billion Bus Terminal Project Breaks Ground

New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy celebrated the groundbreaking of a new Midtown Bus Terminal, marking a major milestone in the state’s efforts to upgrade its public transportation system.

The project, valued at $10 billion, aims to provide a more reliable and accessible experience for commuters. The new terminal will feature a 2.1 million square-foot main building, a separate staging and storing facility, and a 3.5-acre public open space. The overhaul is designed to meet projected commuter growth through 2040-2050.

The new terminal will also include improved ramp systems that eliminate the need for buses to touch city streets, reducing congestion and traffic concerns. Concessions and retail amenities will be accessible from both inside the bus terminal and from the surrounding community.

Construction is expected to take place in phases, with a temporary terminal and new ramps completed by 2028 and the main terminal finished by 2032. Officials say the project will provide a best-in-class customer experience for commuters and enhance the surrounding community.
