Nexstar Stations Gone Dark Over Contract Dispute with Altice

A carriage dispute has erupted between Nexstar’s WPIX and NewsNation, which can no longer be seen on cable systems owned by Altice. The dispute affects 63 of Nexstar’s local TV stations in 42 US markets.

Nexstar claims that Altice made unreasonable demands, including an interim extension offer that was rejected. However, Altice says Nexstar is using a “anti-consumer” negotiation tactic, tying local channels to less popular ones.

The two companies have been in talks since October but couldn’t reach an agreement on “special terms”. This dispute is the latest in a series of carriage disputes as subscribers shift to streaming services.

Altice serves areas in and around New York, as well as the southern and midwestern US. The cable provider has 2.03 million pay-TV subscribers in the third quarter of 2024.
