Next-Gen IndyCar Drivers Shine at Mid-Ohio Qualifying

Young drivers stole the show during qualifying for Sunday’s Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio, with an average age of just 22.8 years old dominating the Firestone Fast Six. Alex Palou led the pack, securing his third pole of the season, ahead of Christian Lundgaard, Kyffin Simpson, Nolan Siegel, Colton Herta, and Louis Foster.

The young drivers impressed, with Simpson and Siegel earning their best starting positions in the series to take up a historic second row. Foster, just 21 years old, was on pole at Road America last time out, and he continued his impressive rookie campaign. The group’s age may be young, but they’re making waves in IndyCar.

“It was incredible,” said Simpson, who praised God for the result. “We felt good, and now we can focus on the race.” Siegel agreed, saying, “Really happy to be starting fourth; best IndyCar starting position… things are really turning around.”

Foster admitted starting sixth wasn’t ideal, but it showed promise for his team. Graham Rahal and Devlin DeFrancesco struggled in qualifying, finishing 20th and 23rd respectively.

The next generation is taking center stage in IndyCar, with these young drivers showcasing their skills.
