Images of the alleged Nintendo Switch 2’s Joy-Con have surfaced online, showing a left Joy-Con with larger SL and SR buttons than its predecessor. The new design ditches the railed lock method in favor of electromagnetic suction controllers. Analysts are poring over the images to verify their legitimacy.
The new Joy-Con features soft rubber glide pads at the top and bottom of the side, as well as a sensor possibly for device connection or 3D gesture-controlled input. Some speculate that the Switch 2 Joy-Con could be used as a mouse when turned on its side and placed on a flat surface.
These images come after previous leaks revealed details about the console’s internal components, screen size, and storage capacity. The alleged specifications list mentions 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. A new patent describes AI image upscaling technology to reduce video game download sizes.
Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backward-compatible with original Switch games and feature Nintendo Switch Online. The company plans to announce the console by the end of March 2025, with a potential release in April 2025 at the earliest.
