Nexus Mods has removed mods featuring Donald Trump and Joe Biden’s heads from its site after users expressed outrage over the removal of the Trump mod. However, the site owner, Dark0ne, clarified that this was a result of the existing file submission policies, which have been in place for years.
The mods in question replaced Captain America’s face with Trump and Biden’s heads in NetEase’s third-person shooter Marvel Rivals. Dark0ne stated that people had been “coming out of the woodwork sending death threats” after assuming Nexus Mods was only removing the Trump mod.
Nexus Mods has a blanket ban on American political mods, which was put in place in 2020 due to concerns over their quality and the polarizing views they express. The site’s Terms of Service state that mods featuring US Presidents will be removed indefinitely.
The removal of these mods is not an attempt to censor certain viewpoints but rather a result of Nexus Mods’ existing policies. Dark0ne emphasized that the site has “no stake in US politics” and will continue to remove any mods that violate its guidelines.
Users can find alternative sites that host Marvel Rivals mods, and Nexus Mods encourages users to do so if they disagree with its decisions. The company remains committed to maintaining a positive modding community despite the controversy surrounding this move.
