NFL Backup QB Jordan Travis Retires After Injuries

New York Jets backup quarterback Jordan Travis is retiring from football due to a gruesome leg injury sustained in 2023 while playing for Florida State. The 25-year-old had hoped to recover fully, but his left leg has not regained its strength. Despite efforts to rehabilitate, doctors have advised him to end his career.

Travis was drafted by the Jets in the fifth round of the 2024 draft and faced a challenging rehab process due to his injury. He spent the entire season on the non-football injury list and never practiced with the team. The Jets’ general manager declined to comment on Travis’ health status, but acknowledged the player’s decision to retire.

Travis’ agent had previously expressed concerns about the Jets’ handling of his rehab, stating that they rushed him back onto the field too quickly. The Jets maintained that they followed prescribed protocols. Despite this setback, Travis expressed gratitude towards the Jets for providing him with an opportunity to pursue his dreams.

The Jets now have a solid quarterback depth chart, led by Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor, with Adrian Martinez as their practice squad player. Former Missouri quarterback Brady Cook has joined the team as an undrafted free agent.

Travis’ football career was marked by highs and lows. He finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting after completing 64% of his passes with 20 touchdown passes and only two interceptions while leading Florida State to an undefeated record.
