NFL Draft Pick Shares Emotional Moment with Deceased Mother

Derrick Harmon, the 21-year-old Steelers draft pick, recently shared a heart-wrenching moment with reporters after his selection on Thursday, April 24. Harmon’s mother, Tiffany Saine, had been hospitalized on life support due to a stroke suffered during his freshman year at Michigan State University.

In a media call, Harmon described the experience as “a little bittersweet” because of his mother’s dire health situation. He revealed that his mother had undergone about eight brain surgeries and was a constant source of motivation for him throughout his football career.

The Steelers selected Harmon 21st overall, and he immediately planned to visit his mother in the hospital to share the news with her before she passed away later that day. Harmon credits his mother as his “rock” and “why,” stating that every decision he made was for her benefit.

In an emotional video shared on ESPN, Harmon expressed his gratitude towards his mother, saying, “She’s the reason why I’m here.” The Steelers organization has offered their condolences to Harmon and Saine’s family during this difficult time.
