Doug Martin, the former All-Pro running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has died at the age of 36. His family released a statement announcing his passing on Sunday, citing an unconfirmed cause of death.
Martin was known for his toughness and physical playing style, earning him the nickname “The Muscle Hamster.” During his NFL career, he rushed for over 5,300 yards and scored 30 touchdowns. He was drafted by Tampa Bay in 2012 and quickly became a standout player, earning a Pro Bowl nod in his rookie season.
Martin’s best season came in 2015 when he rushed for 1,402 yards and six touchdowns. After spending two more seasons with the Buccaneers, he finished his career with the Oakland Raiders in 2018. Martin also excelled at Boise State, where he ranks among the top players in school history.
