Former NFL quarterback and current Broncos executive John Elway is remembering his friend, business partner, and former agent Jeff Sperbeck, who died Wednesday after falling off a golf cart driven by Elway in La Quinta, California. Sperbeck was 62.
Elway released a statement expressing his devastation over Sperbeck’s passing, saying he will be deeply missed for his loyalty, wisdom, friendship, and love. Sperbeck had been Elway’s agent since 1990 and represented more than 100 NFL players during his three-decade career as an agent and business adviser.
Sperbeck was involved in various business ventures with Elway, including restaurants, car dealerships, and a winery. The two also co-founded Sullivan & Sperbeck, a sports marketing firm that was acquired by Octagon in 2001.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, which Elway described as a “horrific accident.” Elway’s attorney said the investigation has confirmed what they already knew: this was a tragic accident with no foul play.
