NFL Owners to Vote on Tush Push Ban, Seeding Proposal

NFL owners are set to vote on a proposal to ban the “tush push” play, which has been successful for teams like the Philadelphia Eagles but raises safety concerns. The play involves two or three players lining up behind the ball carrier to try and push him past the first-down line or into the end zone. Frankie Luvu, Washington Commanders linebacker, is opposed to the ban and believes it’s a legitimate strategy.

However, despite a lack of data showing injuries from the tush push, safety issues have been raised by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The Green Bay Packers’ proposal was tabled last month after a split vote among teams, with 16-16 result needed for passage. Another proposal is up for discussion – seeding the postseason bracket by record instead of division champions.

This change aims to prevent wild-card teams from facing better-recorded division champions on the road, but also faces debate among owners. Meanwhile, the league has proposed a rule allowing players to participate in flag football at the Olympics in 2028, with specific requirements for team selections, injury protection, and medical staff standards.
