The Kansas City Chiefs have taken another step towards winning their third consecutive Super Bowl title by defeating the Houston Texans 23-14 at home.
Led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs remained unbeaten and kept their hopes of becoming the first team to win three straight Super Bowls alive. The team’s seventh straight AFC Championship game awaits them next week against either the Baltimore Ravens or the Buffalo Bills.
The Detroit Lions, meanwhile, were dumped out of the play-offs after a historic season came to an abrupt end with a 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders in the NFC Divisional Round. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels led Washington to their first NFC Championship game appearance since 1992.
In a thrilling second quarter, the two teams produced six touchdowns and 42 points, setting a new play-off record for the highest-scoring quarter. The Commanders ultimately emerged victorious, with Daniels passing for 299 yards and leading his team to victory.
The Chiefs’ next opponent will be determined after Sunday’s Divisional Round games against the Ravens or Bills. With their season hanging in the balance, Kansas City is eager to secure a spot in the Super Bowl.
