NFL Preseason Week 1 Recap: Rookie Performances Shine

The 2025 NFL preseason kicked off on Thursday with several rookies making their debut, providing a glimpse into the future of each team. Our experts break down the top performances from around the league.

From the Seahawks to the Ravens, several rookie players caught eyes in their first game action. In Seattle, fifth-round pick Tory Horton continued to make his case for the No. 3 receiver role, catching three passes for 31 yards and a touchdown pass from Drew Lock. Meanwhile, Ravens rookie LaJohntay Wester provided much-needed juice to the team’s punt return game with an 87-yard runback.

In Indianapolis, sixth-round pick Tyler Loop hooked a 46-yard field goal attempt but nailed a 52-yarder in the fourth quarter, showing promise as the only kicker on the roster. Rookie tight end Tyler Warren made his debut and wasted little time making an impact, catching all three passes targeted to him for 40 receiving yards.

Other rookie performances included Eagles running back AJ Dillon’s encouraging debut, rushing five times for 27 yards and catching three passes for 27 yards. Undrafted rookie receiver Darius Cooper (6 catches, 82 yards, 1 TD) raised his profile with sharp routes and good burst.

In Baltimore, fourth-round defensive tackle Ty Robinson registered two pressures, a sack, and demonstrated good awareness by sniffing out a screen and taking that option away from the quarterback.

These rookies are just beginning to prove themselves, but their performances in Week 1 offer a promising glimpse into what they might bring to their respective teams this season.
