NFL Preseason Week 1 Takeaways: Mitchell Shines, Burrow and Chase Start Strong

The first week of the 2025 NFL preseason saw several notable performances from rookie players and established stars. Baltimore Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell made a strong statement after a season-ending injury in 2023, with nine carries for 68 yards (7.6 average) and a 22-yard touchdown. His fellow RB/KR, Rasheen Ali, also had a solid showing.

Indianapolis Colts first-round tight end Tyler Warren made his impressive debut, playing, running, and catching hard despite being overshadowed by the news of Anthony Richardson’s early exit. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase started fast in their preseason opener, with Burrow completing nine passes for 123 yards in just three snaps.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ offense was led by backup Tanner McKee, who completed 20 of 25 passes for 252 yards and two scores. The Eagles’ new quarterback has solidified his standing as Jalen Hurts’ backup after a strong preseason performance.

In Seattle, Seahawks running back George Holani took advantage of the absence of several starters to shine, with seven carries for 61 yards (8.7 average) and a touchdown. Rookie wideout Tory Horton also made an impact, catching three passes for 31 yards and a score.

The Las Vegas Raiders’ preseason debuts were underwhelming, with quarterback Geno Smith having a forgettable showing despite being on his former team.
