NFL Star Mike Williams Abruptly Retires After One Day of Harbaugh Training Camp

NFL star wide receiver Mike Williams has unexpectedly retired from the sport, citing an undisclosed injury. The 30-year-old, who played eight seasons with the Chargers, was placed on the physically unable to perform list at training camp and never returned.

Williams’ sudden retirement is a surprise to many, including his former coach Jim Harbaugh and quarterback Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers. However, Harbaugh’s tough practices have been well-documented as being challenging for even the toughest players.

Former Michigan teammates Jabrill Peppers and Jourdan Lewis joked about Williams’ decision, saying they thought he couldn’t take another day of Harbaugh’s training camp. Williams accumulated 4,806 yards, 309 receptions, and 31 touchdowns in his first stint with the Chargers.

Herbert remembered Williams as a reliable and talented receiver, but said it was “heartbreaking” news to hear about his retirement. The team has lost one more receiver on their depth chart, but Herbert expressed support for his former teammate.
