Nick Kyrgios Cries on Court After Forcing Retirement

Tennis star Nick Kyrgios broke down in tears during his first-round match at the Indian Wells tournament after suffering a fresh injury blow. The 29-year-old Australian was trailing Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp 6-7 (7-9) 0-3 before being forced to retire from the match.

Kyrgios had previously cut short his practice session due to wrist pain and expressed concerns about his ability to play. He admitted that he felt a sharp pain in his wrist during the match, which made it difficult for him to continue playing.

The injury has been a long-standing issue for Kyrgios, who is struggling to overcome persistent wrist and knee problems. His Australian Open appearance was his first at a Grand Slam since 2022, and he had previously withdrawn from the first round in Melbourne due to similar issues.

Kyrgios expressed his frustration and disappointment with the situation, saying that it’s “brutal” and “heartbreaking” to be pulled back after a good season. He is now facing the challenge of starting over from scratch, having been out of competition for almost two years and currently without a ranking.

The injury has also affected Kyrgios’ mental state, with him admitting that he thought he had figured out his problems and was on the verge of a Grand Slam appearance. However, the setback is a harsh reminder of the challenges he still faces in his career.
