Nike to Raise US Prices Amid Tariff Uncertainty

US sportswear giant Nike plans to hike prices on some trainers and clothing in the US starting from early June, citing “price adjustments”. The company, which imports most of its goods from Asia, a region heavily targeted by President Donald Trump’s tariffs, is following rival Adidas’ lead. While importers typically absorb tariffs, they often pass them on to consumers.

Nike said it regularly evaluates its business and makes pricing changes as part of seasonal planning. However, the company did not explicitly mention US tariffs as the reason for the price increase. The US has paused higher “reciprocal” tariffs until July but a 10% base levy remains in place against countries such as Vietnam and Indonesia.

Most Nike shoes priced over $100 will see prices rise by up to $10 from Sunday, while clothing and equipment will be raised by between $2 to $10. Certain products like Air Force 1 trainers and children’s items are exempted from the price hikes. The company also announced plans to sell products directly to Amazon in the US for the first time since 2019.

This move comes as companies worldwide navigate uncertainty over Trump’s trade policies, including steep “reciprocal” tariffs on countries such as Vietnam and Indonesia, which will face some of the heaviest US import taxes. The pause on these tariffs is set to expire in early July.
