Nintendo Abolishes Gold Points Loyalty Program Ahead of Switch 2 Launch

Nintendo has announced that it will discontinue its Gold Points loyalty program, a system in place since 2018 that rewarded users with points for purchasing Switch games and other eligible items. The decision comes ahead of the upcoming launch of the long-rumored Switch 2 console.

Under the old system, users could earn Gold Points by buying digital copies of games after March 24, but pre-orders made before this date would still be eligible. Physical game purchases were awarded fewer points and had a one-year time limit. Users shopping at Nintendo New York stores also earned points.

The switch to a new program is thought to be connected to the release of the Switch 2, with an official announcement likely coming during the April 2 Nintendo Direct.
