Nintendo Halts Switch 2 US Pre-Orders Due to Tariffs

Nintendo has suspended pre-orders for the highly anticipated Switch 2 console in the United States due to steep tariffs imposed on exports from Japan. The company had initially planned to open pre-orders next week, but now aims to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.

The decision affects US markets only, leaving UK pre-orders unaffected. The tariffs, which include a 24% rate charged on goods imported from Japan, will be felt by Nintendo as it must absorb or pass them onto consumers.

Despite the change in plans, Nintendo still intends to launch the Switch 2 on June 5 as originally scheduled. Fans are concerned that this may lead to price adjustments in the US, particularly given the already high cost of games for the console.
