Nintendo Switch 2 Cartridges Tainted with Foul-Tasting Coating

Nintendo has taken a preventative measure to discourage people from putting their cartridges in their mouths by applying a bitterant called denatonium benzoate to its new Switch 2 consoles. This non-toxic coating is designed to deter accidental ingestion and ensure the safety of children, who are particularly prone to putting things in their mouths.

According to Nintendo technical director Takuhiro Dohta, the coating is so unpleasant that it will cause users to spit it out if they try to put a cartridge in their mouth. “We don’t want anybody to be at risk of any unwanted consumption,” he said.

While the exact taste of the Switch 2 cartridges remains unknown, Nintendo’s safety measures are intended to prevent any potential harm. The company has implemented this coating on its new console to avoid any risks associated with accidental ingestion or choking hazards.
