A major supplier of Nintendo consoles has warned that the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 will be subject to up to 145% US tariffs on goods imported from China. The warning came after President Trump confirmed that Chinese-made electronics, including Sony’s PlayStation 5 consoles and PC tech by Apple, HP, Dell, Lenovo, and more, would not be exempt from tariffs.
The situation has caused key tech suppliers to rapidly move production outside of China, but most Nintendo Switch 2 consoles are still manufactured in the country. The US tariffs have already delayed pre-orders for the console in the US, which were initially scheduled for April 9 but were pushed back to May 8.
Nintendo has not announced any changes to its launch date of June 5. However, the company’s decision to increase prices for the Switch 2 is likely due to inflation and other factors, according to analysts. Despite the uncertainty surrounding tariffs, digital games appear to be safe for now.
