Nintendo has announced that “Game Vouchers cannot be redeemed for Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games,” according to a page on its website. This move may lead players to worry about potential price hikes for first-party titles, similar to what Sony and Microsoft did with their PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.
The Game Voucher program, which allowed Nintendo Switch Online members to purchase vouchers for discounted prices, has been discontinued. However, earned Gold Points will remain valid for 12 months after they are issued.
Nintendo also ended the My Nintendo Gold Points program, which granted points for digital and physical purchases. The company’s decision comes as the Nintendo Switch 2 console is expected to launch soon.
It is unclear whether game prices on the new console will increase due to this change in the voucher program. However, some players are concerned that it may signal a price hike for first-party titles.
