Nintendo Switch 2 Leak Details New Hardware and Games

Nintendo has allegedly revealed plans for its next-generation console, the Switch 2. According to a leak by “Nate the Hate,” the system will be released on January 16, with a hardware-focused trailer showcasing its new features. The trailer is expected to precede a software-focused Direct in February or March.

The leak suggests that the Switch 2 may launch in May or June 2025 and will feature several high-profile games, including a new Mario Kart installment and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Other titles reportedly set for release include Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

A mockup of the console at CES 2024 sparked interest from Nintendo’s lawyers, but the company has yet to confirm any details about the Switch 2. The system is expected to support newer SD card standards and may use its Joy-Con controllers as a mouse.

Images of the console’s internals and alleged images showing the next-generation Joy-Con have surfaced online, with some details confirming a larger screen and magnetic suction controllers replacing the railed lock method used in the original Switch. A patent filed by Nintendo in 2023 describes AI image upscaling technology to help reduce game download sizes.

Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backward-compatible with original Switch games and feature Nintendo Switch Online. The company expects a release window of April 2025 at the earliest, with a formal announcement expected in the first quarter of this year.
