Nintendo Switch 2 Price Concerns Due to Tariffs

Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console has sparked concerns about its price due to rising global tariffs. DFC Intelligence, a top analyst firm, has issued a report on the Switch 2’s pricing, and while it remains optimistic about the console’s prospects, the tariffs pose significant challenges.

The $450 price tag of the Switch 2 is considered a good value, especially compared to previous estimates before the pre-tariff global economic conditions. However, with tariffs potentially leading to a 20% increase in hardware prices over the next two years, sales forecasts are lowered to 15 million units by 2025, down from an initial estimate of 17 million.

The uncertainty surrounding the tariff situation makes it difficult to predict its impact on the Switch 2’s sales. DFC Intelligence notes that if tariffs remain unchanged or escalate, Nintendo may choose to scale back manufacturing and adjust prices accordingly. This could lead to a significant portion of potential buyers holding off on purchases until prices come down.

Despite these challenges, the analyst firm remains confident in the Switch 2’s prospects, citing its potential as a huge hit even with lowered sales forecasts. The first Switch console is one of the best-selling video game systems of all time, and it’s likely that the Switch 2 will follow suit. However, a large price jump due to tariffs could still pose a threat to its success.

Nintendo CEO Doug Bowser has acknowledged that the $450 price did not include baking in tariffs, which creates uncertainty about the potential price increase. The company is actively assessing the situation and will need to address it.
