Nintendo Switch Data Transfer Ahead of Switch 2 Release

Nintendo has released an update for the original Switch before its successor, the Switch 2, arrives on June 5. The update includes several new features, including shareable Virtual Game Cards and color swaps for some app icons.

One significant change is the ability to upload data from your original Switch to a dedicated server, which can be accessed by your Nintendo Account on a future Switch 2 console. This feature allows you to transfer all of your games, save data, screenshots, and system settings to a new device before it’s erased from the old one.

To access this option, go to System Settings > System > System Transfer to Nintendo Switch 2. If you’re eligible for the update, select “I don’t have a Nintendo Switch 2 yet” and take note of the “Download Deadline.” Make sure your data is backed up before it expires in up to a year.

Note that some data, such as news settings and Bluetooth preferences, will not be uploaded. However, you’ll still retain most of your game libraries, save data, and other essential information. This feature can be a boon for those planning to sell or upgrade their original Switch before the new console arrives.
