Nintendo has reportedly been withholding development kits for the Nintendo Switch 2, instead directing developers to focus on the original Switch. According to Digital Foundry, the team spoke with numerous developers at Gamescom who expressed difficulty in obtaining the necessary hardware.
These developers want to create games for the upcoming Switch 2 but are being told to ship their titles on the OG Switch and rely on backward compatibility features on the new console. This could hinder optimization for the Switch 2’s more powerful hardware.
Notably, some big-name developers have struggled to receive kits, while smaller independent developers have been included in the program. Nintendo has yet to comment on this matter, but Game Developer will provide updates as more information becomes available.
