Nintendo’s Record-Breaking Switch 2 Sales Outpacing Expectations

Nintendo’s recent sales figures are a testament to its success with the latest console iteration, the Switch 2. In just four days, the console has sold over 3.5 million units, shattering previous records for the most successful console launch of all time. The system has now reportedly sold around six million units in its first month, along with eight million games.

Notably, Mario Kart World is the top-selling game, accounting for almost six million copies out of the total eight million. This significant success can be attributed to the bundle deal offered with the Switch 2 launch. Interestingly, digital sales have dropped by over 13 percent compared to the same quarter last year, which Nintendo attributes to a decrease in downloadable versions of packaged software.

However, there’s also been a notable drop in “IP related business,” down four percent, largely due to a decrease in movie-related revenue, which is an impressively small decline considering it was two years since The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released.

The sales figures for the Switch 2 are on track to surpass Nintendo’s goal of 15 million units by March 2026, and with the holiday season ahead, there’s still plenty of room for growth. As the company continues to generate revenue from its successful console launch, it will be exciting to see how other games like Donkey Kong Bananza perform.
