NJ Transit Rail Service Resumes May 20 After Strike

NJ Transit rail service will resume on May 20 after a one-day strike ended yesterday. Commuters expressed mixed reactions to the temporary stoppage, with some finding it more convenient than usual and others facing inconvenience.

The deal reached over the weekend addressed wages as the main issue, resulting in hourly pay increases beyond previous proposals. General Chairman Tom Haas said the agreement boosts pay for workers, overcoming the initial disagreement between union members and managers.

While some commuters, like Ari Zweig from Ramsey, found taking the bus easy due to a straightforward transfer to Port Authority, others experienced issues. Melissa Summers at Secaucus Park and Ride was surprised to need to change her commute again, expecting the train to resume on May 19. In contrast, Sumbal Khan and Magy Nabil reported smooth experiences with the express bus, which they found nearly empty.

The temporary nature of the strike’s impact may have contributed to a smoother experience at some stations. Commuters are advised to check for updates as rail service resumes next week.
