No. 8 Michigan State (24-5, 15-3 Big Ten) defeated No. 11 Wisconsin (22-7, 12-6) 71-62 on Sunday, securing their fifth consecutive win. Jaden Akins scored 19 points, while Jaxon Kohler achieved a career-high of 16 rebounds and 10 pounds.
The Spartans have put themselves in contention for the conference championship with only one week left in the regular season. In contrast, Wisconsin had won six of seven games but lost to Michigan State.
Freshman Jase Richardson played a crucial role in the game, overcoming foul trouble to score 11 points, hand out six assists, and grab five rebounds. Despite being held below his scoring average by John Tonje, who scored 11 points, the Spartans managed to take control early in the second half.
The Badgers struggled with three-pointers, missing nearly 11 per game for the first time all season. The Spartans’ Coen Carr provided key moments, including highlight-reel dunks, which helped spark the team.
Michigan State’s next game is on Thursday night against Iowa, while Wisconsin faces Minnesota on Wednesday night.
