No Real Estate Solution for Gaza

The US President’s proposal to own and develop Gaza Strip is rejected by Palestinians.

In a shocking move, the president of the United States suggested taking long-term ownership of the Gaza Strip, aiming to transform it into a real estate development hub. However, this plan has sparked widespread outrage among Palestinians in Gaza.

Many Gazans are angry with Hamas for causing destruction and ruining the Palestinian national project. They want Gaza to become a prosperous home for its people, but they reject Trump’s imperial plan as an additional blowback from the October 7 attack.

Gaza had a chance to develop under Israeli withdrawal 20 years ago. Then, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon removed settlements, paving the way for a Palestinian state. Plans included a short-lived airport, seaport, offshore gas drilling, and development projects that would teach skills and promote self-sufficiency.

Despite this potential, Palestinians are now left with uninhabitable conditions after 16 months of war. The US president’s plan only exacerbates the problem, ignoring the aspirations of the Palestinian people to build a secure and prosperous home in Gaza.
