Universal Pictures has announced that Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan is set to helm a cinematic adaptation of Homer’s ancient epic poem, “The Odyssey.” The film, which will be shot in IMAX and star a talented ensemble cast including Zendaya, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron, promises to bring the classic story to life like never before.
Nolan’s adaptation is described as a “mythic action epic” that will be shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film is set to open in theaters on July 17, 2026, and will mark Homer’s foundational saga for its debut on IMAX screens.
Fans of Nolan’s previous work, including “Inception,” “The Dark Knight,” and “Oppenheimer,” will be thrilled to see him tackle another epic project. Holland recently spoke about signing onto the project, joking that he only has to pay for one hotel room when working with his girlfriend Zendaya on set. Pattinson, Damon, and Hathaway have all previously appeared in Nolan’s films.
Nolan won the Oscar for best director last year, producing and directing “Oppenheimer” which took home the award for best picture. With this new project, he will be bringing Homer’s timeless story to a wider audience than ever before, using cutting-edge technology to bring the epic tale to life on IMAX screens.
