Norovirus: What Household Cleaners Can’t Kill

Norovirus cases are on the rise in the US, and Dr. Sanjay Gupta explains why it’s so difficult to kill with household disinfectants. Unlike other viruses, norovirus is highly contagious and can withstand many common cleaning products.

Dr. Gupta suggests that bleach-based cleaners may not be effective against norovirus, as the virus can survive on surfaces for up to 48 hours even after sanitizing. Instead, he recommends using a solution of equal parts water and white vinegar or a disinfectant specifically designed to combat norovirus.

Additionally, Dr. Gupta emphasizes the importance of proper hand hygiene, frequent cleaning and disinfection, and avoiding close contact with individuals who are sick. By taking these steps, you can reduce the spread of norovirus in your home.
