Norris Wins Australian GP as Kimi Antonelli’s Penalty is Overturned

Lando Norris survived a dramatic finale to win the Australian Grand Prix from Max Verstappen. Norris overtook Oscar Piastri on wet tires in the 13th lap, allowing him to take the chequered flag with just 0.8 seconds behind Verstappen. George Russell took third place for Mercedes.

However, the result was marred by a five-second penalty handed to Kimi Antonelli, which has now been overturned. As a result, Antonelli finishes fourth on his debut with Mercedes.

The Australian GP was a wild and thrilling race, with Alex Albon’s impressive fifth-place finish proving that Williams is a team to watch in the 2025 season. Albon claimed he was under-driving due to the slippery conditions, saying it would be an exciting year for him.

Max Verstappen praised the last-lap battle, saying “it was fun” despite his world champion status. The Dutch driver’s performance ended with two consecutive podiums, after a disappointing 2024 season.

The unexpected result marked a surprise turn of events in the Australian GP, with underdogs like Albon and Antonelli proving to be top contenders. Norris took the win, marking an impressive start to the 2025 season for McLaren.
