North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has acknowledged losses among the thousands of troops sent by him to fight in Ukraine on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. In a ceremony, Kim honored 100 fallen soldiers, marking the first time he publicly acknowledged significant casualties. The acknowledgment comes after months of relative silence on the matter.
Kim’s remarks also suggested that North Korea’s involvement in Russia’s war efforts may be nearing its end, with the “victorious conclusion” of overseas military operations. However, it remains unclear whether troops already deployed to Russia will be returned home soon.
