A new resort in North Korea, designed to attract tourists, shut its gates to foreign visitors less than three weeks after its grand opening. The Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourism Zone, inaugurated by Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un on July 1, featured a waterpark, hotels, restaurants, and shopping malls. Its sudden closure has raised questions about the North Korean regime’s efforts to attract more foreign visitors. Direct flights between Moscow and Pyongyang were planned but now seem unlikely.
