North Texas officials warn that the state’s electric grid may not be able to meet energy demands within the next decade due to industrial growth, particularly in Fort Worth. US Rep. Craig Goldman, a Fort Worth lawmaker, expressed confidence in President Trump’s administration’s ability to shape federal laws on the energy industry.
Goldman attended the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers conference with dozens of oil and gas producers and emphasized the importance of wind and solar power for the grid. However, he criticized California’s goal to rely solely on clean electricity by 2045 as an “inefficient milestone.” Goldman also highlighted small nuclear reactors as a future energy source.
The growing population and data centers in North Texas are driving up energy needs, making it a suitable location for small nuclear facilities. The region has seen significant growth in the energy industry, with over 6,000 people employed directly through energy companies. Mayor Mattie Parker credited oil and gas producers with boosting Fort Worth’s economy, calling the energy industry the “face of Fort Worth’s really bright future.”
