A significant cybersecurity breach at California-based non-profit organization NorthBay Healthcare Corporation has exposed sensitive data of over half a million Americans. The breach occurred from January 11 to April 1, 2024, when an unauthorized entity infiltrated the firm’s computer systems.
Exposed records include names, birthdays, Social Security numbers, passport numbers, financial account information, medical and biometric details, health insurance records, driver’s license numbers, and state or government-issued identification numbers. The intruders also obtained usernames and passwords, credit card numbers, expiration dates, security codes, and personal identification numbers (PINs).
NorthBay Health has since strengthened its security protocols to prevent future data breaches. Affected customers are advised to monitor their credit reports and account statements closely and can take advantage of a complimentary one-year Experian IdentityWorks membership.
The breach highlights the growing threat of cyber attacks on healthcare institutions, which often hold sensitive information. It underscores the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in protecting critical data. Individuals whose personal information is exposed in such breaches face risks of identity theft and financial fraud.
