Northern Lights Forecast to Shine Brightly in 2025

The northern lights, also known as the aurora borealis, have been active in late 2024 and are expected to continue into next year, making 2025 a great time for spotting this elusive light show. The natural phenomenon is mainly influenced by geomagnetic storms from solar activity.

Several European countries offer ideal viewing conditions, with some of the best places to catch the lights being:

Iceland: Dark skies between September and April make it an excellent spot, with vibrant colors appearing on clear nights.
Norway: Northern Norway’s dark hours, multiple islands, fjords, and mountains create a breathtaking backdrop for witnessing the northern lights.
Finland: Visiting the northern parts between August and April increases chances of seeing auroras, especially in areas above the Arctic Circle.
Scotland: The northern latitude makes it a good spot for spotting “Mirrie Dancers”, with the Hebrides, Shetland, Orkney, Caithness, Applecross, and Lochinver offering prime viewing spots.
Greenland: The lights can be seen from September to April, with clear nights ideal for viewing. South Greenland offers early sightings as late as August.
Sweden: Kiruna in northern Sweden is one of the best places to see pink, green, and purple streaks, while Swedish Lapland offers views until late March or early April.

Remember to visit during dark hours and find a spot away from bright lights and buildings for the best viewing experience.
