Northern Lights to Shine in Wisconsin Thursday & Friday

The northern lights are expected to appear across the Wisconsin sky on Thursday and Friday, according to the NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center. The forecast indicates that aurora borealis will be visible as far south as central Wisconsin on Thursday but will remain in the northern region of the state on Friday.

Thursday night is predicted to be mostly cloudy with a chance of snow, while Friday night will also be mostly cloudy. For optimal viewing, head to locations such as Newport State Park, Ellison Bay’s Driftless Region, Harrington Beach State Park, Kettle Moraine State Forest, Kohler-Andrae State Park, and Parnell Tower.

To increase your chances of witnessing the northern lights, aim for midnight or shortly after, staying away from city lights and heading to higher vantage points. The Space Weather Prediction Center recommends looking within an hour or two before dawn.
