Northern Lights Visible Across US West Coast Tonight

Aurora fans may be in luck tonight as the northern lights could be visible across the western edge of the United States. The “view line” for Tuesday’s aurora forecast runs along the northeast border of Oregon, where clear skies and low light pollution will provide optimal viewing conditions.

The solar maximum, a 11-year cycle of magnetic activity from the sun, is expected to last into 2026 and bring people in the Pacific Northwest opportunities to see the northern lights. The lights could also be spotted in parts of Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Alaska.

To make the most of this opportunity, viewers should look toward the northern horizon and avoid areas with heavy light pollution. For the latest predictions on where the lights will be visible, visit the Space Weather Prediction Center’s 30-minute aurora forecast.
