A 440-foot-long cargo ship, the NCL Salten, ran aground near a home in Norway’s Trondheim Fjord area on Thursday morning. Johan Helberg, whose house was just feet away from the vessel, told Norwegian broadcaster NRK that he had slept through the incident and only woke up when a neighbor alerted him to potential danger.
The ship’s red and green bow is seen in images taken near Helberg’s home, which suffered minimal damage, including a damaged heating pump wire. Authorities reported no injuries or oil spills were involved in the incident.
Despite efforts to refloat the ship at high tide, the operation was unsuccessful. The shipping company NCL stated that it was aware of police investigations and cooperating with authorities. A police spokesperson could not be reached for comment on Friday.
