NotebookLM Enhances Research Capabilities with Deep Research and File Support

NotebookLM has introduced two significant features to enhance its research capabilities: Deep Research and expanded file support.

Deep Research, a dedicated researcher, helps you find and use sources more effectively by synthesizing detailed reports or recommending relevant articles, papers, or websites. This feature acts as your personal researcher, browsing hundreds of websites on your behalf and refining its search as it learns.

With Deep Research, you can direct the “researcher” to specific places, creating a research plan and generating an organized, insightful report in just a few minutes. The report is source-grounded and can be added directly into your notebook. You can also continue adding other sources while Deep Research runs in the background, building a rich knowledge base on any topic.

The new file support adds flexibility to your workflow by allowing you to upload information from various file types, including:

* Google Sheets
* Drive files as URLs
* Images (with handwritten notes or brochures)
* PDFs from Google Drive
* Microsoft Word documents (.docx)

These features will be available to all users over the next week, with images becoming available a few weeks later. The new updates aim to boost your research capabilities in NotebookLM, making it easier to find and use sources effectively.
