The Nothing Phone (3a) series has been available for a week, and while users are enjoying the new phones, there’s one area of concern – the storage used in both devices. Both models come equipped with UFS 2.2 storage, instead of the faster UFS 3.0 that many expected.
According to Nothing’s official statement, the decision not to use faster storage wasn’t driven by cost-cutting measures. Instead, the company believes resources should be allocated where they have the greatest impact – in software optimization, battery life, and display performance.
Nothing emphasizes that a phone’s speed isn’t solely dependent on storage, but also on RAM, CPU performance, and software updates. Interestingly, an analysis by GSMArena reveals that the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro model outperforms its standard counterpart, with 50% faster random read and write speeds despite sharing the same UFS 2.2 storage.
A benchmark result comparing the Nothing Phone (3a) to the Realme 11 Pro Plus shows the former holding its own, despite having slower storage. Nothing assures users that future updates will bring ongoing optimizations, ensuring reliable performance as their phones age.
