Notorious B.I.G.’s Mother Voletta Wallace Dies at 72

Notorious B.I.G.’s mother, Voletta Wallace, has died at the age of 72. A Jamaican immigrant who raised her son as a single mother in Brooklyn, Wallace was in hospice care before her passing on February 21. Monroe County Coroner Thomas Yanac confirmed that she died of natural causes.

Wallace’s life was dedicated to celebrating her late son’s music and legacy. After B.I.G.’s death in 1997, she spent years managing his estate, which is reportedly worth $160 million. She also produced the 2009 movie “Notorious” about her son’s life. In 2020, Wallace celebrated B.I.G.’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, stating that she was proud of his accomplishments and the honesty in his lyrics.
