Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman has agreed to a long-term extension that will make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the country, according to a source confirmed by ESPN on Sunday. The four-year deal secures Freeman for six more years at South Bend.
In his third season with Notre Dame, Freeman led the No. 7 Irish to an 11-1 record and a first-round College Football Playoff game against No. 10 Indiana on Friday. He rallied the team to 10 consecutive wins following their loss to Northern Illinois in September and has a 30-9 record in his career as head coach.
Notre Dame’s decision comes after Freeman was promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach in 2021, replacing Brian Kelly who left for LSU. Since then, Freeman has led the team to two consecutive 10-win seasons and three College Football Playoff appearances, including this year’s first-round matchup against Indiana. The winner will face No. 2 Georgia on January 1 in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
