Notre Dame Football Game Expected to Cause Traffic Chaos

Notre Dame’s Friday night home football game against Indiana University is expected to draw a large crowd, causing traffic congestion in the South Bend area. Local law enforcement held a news conference on Wednesday to inform residents about road conditions and suggest alternative routes.

Douglas Road will be closed to eastbound traffic from campus to Ironwood Road before the game, with the St. Joseph County Police Department urging drivers to avoid it altogether if possible. Instead, they recommend taking the toll road from the 83-mile marker in Granger or using Cleveland Road as an alternate route.

After the game, roads closest to campus will be one-way towards the stadium, while all other roadways will return to normal traffic flow.

Residents are advised to plan their evening commutes accordingly and consider avoiding campus altogether if they don’t need to attend the game. The university has also implemented measures to minimize disruptions, including essential employees working on campus while others work from home.

An increased police presence will be visible in the area to ensure a safe and smooth experience for all attendees. Parking lots will open at 8 a.m., and drivers are urged to arrive early due to expected traffic and weather conditions.
