Nurses at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Massachusetts have expressed concern over a growing number of cancer cases among staff members on the fifth-floor maternal care ward. One nurse recently diagnosed with a brain tumor shared her experience, stating that several colleagues have also been diagnosed with different types of tumors, including some cancerous.
The hospital has confirmed an investigation into the matter and found “no environmental risks” linked to the development of brain tumors. Eight nurses were interviewed, five of whom had benign brain tumors, while none were cancerous. The hospital has assured staff that there is no environmental risk at the facility and prioritizes the health and wellbeing of its employees.
The nurse who made the complaint believes the hospital needs to provide more reassurance and support to staff members. She expressed a desire for “reassurance” and “safety” from the hospital, echoing concerns shared by many staff members in recent months.
