Nvidia Admits RTX 5080 Manufacturing Issue Affects Cards Globally

Nvidia has confirmed that its newly released GeForce RTX 5080 graphics cards are affected by the same rare manufacturing issue that caused some of its earlier RTX 50-series GPUs to be missing render units and perform slightly worse.

The company initially only identified three affected cards: the RTX 5090, RTX 5090D, and RTX 5070 Ti. However, further investigation revealed that RTX 5080 production was also impacted by the issue. According to Nvidia’s global PR director, Ben Berraondo, the problem affects less than 0.5% of the affected GPUs, with an average graphical performance impact of around 4%.

Affecting consumers, those who purchased the defective RTX 5080 GPUs can contact their board manufacturer for a replacement. Nvidia has assured that no other GPUs in its lineup have been affected by this issue, including upcoming models like the RTX 5070.

The company’s amended statement notes that the production anomaly has been corrected and that Nvidia was not aware of these issues before launching the new GPUs.
