Nvidia, Dell, and Super Micro to Join xAI in Memphis, Boosting AI Hub

Memphis is emerging as a major player in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, with tech giants Nvidia, Dell, and Super Micro Computer joining forces with existing company xAI in the city. Greater Memphis Chamber President and CEO Ted Townsend announced the development at the chamber’s annual Chairman’s Circle luncheon event.

The expansion of xAI is expected to bring nearly 1,000 new jobs to the area, as well as significant investments in infrastructure. The company has doubled its supercomputer, Colossus, which now boasts 200,000 chips and a processing power that can calculate cancer research studies in just 4 minutes and 22 seconds.

xAI’s collaboration with other major companies is expected to further solidify Memphis’ position as a leading AI hub. The facility will act as a data hub for Elon Musk-owned companies X and SpaceX, among others. Plans are also underway for a $78 million greywater treatment facility and a new substation, which are expected to support the growing presence of xAI in the city.

While details on capital investments and job creation figures were not provided, Townsend emphasized that the investment will attract new talent and drive growth in the Memphis area. The Greater Memphis Chamber has selected xAI as its member, further highlighting the city’s commitment to supporting emerging industries like AI.
