Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced plans to discuss a potential new computer chip designed specifically for China with the Trump administration. The proposed “B30A” semiconductor is intended for artificial intelligence data centers, building on existing technology like the H20 chip. While the B30A operates at half the speed of Nvidia’s main chips, it is still a significant development.
Huang praised the Trump administration for recently approving sales of Nvidia’s H20 chips to China after business was suspended in April. The approval came with a 15% tax on those sales. This move follows broader trade talks between Beijing and Washington, which have seen both sides relax some restrictions.
Nvidia has reassured Chinese authorities that its chips do not pose security risks for the US. CEO Huang stated that there are no “backdoor” security risks in Nvidia’s computer chips and is working to resolve concerns raised by China’s internet watchdog.
The move aims to demonstrate the company’s commitment to cooperation with China, following a recent accusation by China’s Cyberspace Administration of serious security issues with Nvidia’s chips.
